Christmas Newsletter

We would like to wish all of our customers and friends from all over the world a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
It has been another busy year at Seallam! Visitor Centre with the tourist season being busy from April through to the end of October. Genealogy research continues for clients all through the year.

There was sad news in July when Chris Lawson passed away after a brave battle with illness. Chris, wife of Bill, played a crucial role in the building and development of Seallam! and the running of it for many years. Chris was a big champion of her native Gaelic language and contributed to many programmes for Radio Nan Gaidheal as well as teaching a Genealogy course through the Gaelic college Sabhal Mor Ostaig in Skye. She is missed very much by all here at Seallam!.

Families continue to be added online to Hebrides People with Barvas parish in the process of being added at the moment. This should be completed in January which will mean all of Lewis and Harris will be available.

Bill Lawson recently released his 7th volume of Harris croft histories. The area of focus in this book is Scalpay. It covers the history of every croft in Scalpay as well as many photographs taken in the 1960s. It is available from http://www.hebridespeople.com/…/…/scalpaigh-harris-volume-7/ for £25 plus shipping.

We hope next year will be another busy year and hope to see many of you.
